Initial
Arrangements
You will be
contacted the week prior to commencement of work for a date
confirmation, work detail finalization, and job entry
arrangements. Most clients provide us with a key because this
is the most convenient arrangement for both them and us. If
you prefer not to give us a key to the house, we ask that you
either be there to let the workers in, leave the door
unlocked, or hide the key in a disclosed location.
Commencing
Work
Ensure that any
specific areas of detail that are important to you will be
directly communicated to the crew working on your floor. The
crew will spend full workdays in the installation and/or
sanding stages of the job.
Moving
Furniture
Please try to have
work area(s) cleared of all furniture. If you have furniture
items that you are not able to move yourself, please let us
know ahead of time, we can move them for a small fee.
Appliances
If any appliances
or bathroom fixtures need to be disconnected, (this usually
occurs in conjunction with an installation job) we recommend
that a professional plumber do so. If necessary, Rhodes
Hardwood Flooring will disconnect and move such items for a
fee.
Installation
Procedures
Our crew will
install between 150 to 450 square feet of flooring per day,
depending on room size and layout complexity. The noise level
generated is medium to high. Tool use will be as follows:
pneumatic nailers/staplers, air compressor, and various
electric saws. Dust level is low. Doors to areas not being
worked on should be kept closed, but plastic sheeting is not
necessary.
Dust
Some fine wood
dust may cling to wall surfaces and collect on horizontal
surfaces such as window sills. An hour or two of cleaning may
be required after our work is completed. The airborne wood
dust from the work will be long gone by the time the final
coat of finish is applied. However, some "regular" airborne
dust (which is always present in any house under everyday
conditions) may settle on the newly applied finish while it
is still drying, and could result in a slightly rougher look
and feel. If this happens, the floor surface should smooth
out as it cures (about 1-2 weeks after completion).
Odors
We offer
environmentally friendly finishes and oil-based. The
oil-based urethanes are mildly toxic while wet and have a
distinctive, not particularly pleasant, smell which may
linger for a few days after the last coat has been applied.
Any person sensitive to this situation should either make
arrangements to stay elsewhere for the duration, or consider
using a water-based urethane.
Paint Touch Up
There is a slight
chance that the installation/sanding process will necessitate
minor baseboard and/or wall paint touchup. Masking the bottom
part of the baseboards, even with low adhesion blue tape,
will more often than not result in the paint peeling off when
the tape is removed. Not masking may result in some urethane
or stain getting on the baseboard. Our bids do not include
making such touchups. If the baseboards and/or walls are
meant to be painted anyway, please try to schedule this to
happen after the floor work is finished.
